Sidetrack Drilling Boosts Production to 2,300 BOPD with Zero Water Cut
Arkenu Oil Company is proud to announce a major technical achievement with the successful re-entry of well HH-81HR-65. This operation involved a sidetrack drilling into a more promising reservoir zone, resulting in exceptional outcomes.
Through thorough analysis, open hole logging, and petrophysical interpretation, the newly accessed well proved to have excellent reservoir properties.
The operation was supported by advanced reservoir mapping and geological steering technologies, in collaboration with Edgo, Camco Oilfield Services, and Baker Hughes. These efforts helped avoid poor-quality zones and kept the drilling above the oil-water contact (OWC).
Additionally, formation damage mitigation was conducted using mud removal techniques in partnership with SLB (Schlumberger), improving the productivity of the well. An Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) system was designed and tested using the Pipesim nodal analysis model to ensure optimal production parameters.
From 15 BOPD with 98% water cut to 2,300 BOPD with zero water — a remarkable technical turnaround.
Upon startup, the well flowed naturally and was later tested under various choke sizes and frequencies. It demonstrated a significant oil production rate of approximately 2,300 barrels per day with zero water cut. The well has now been successfully integrated into AGOCO’s production system.
Previously, this well was producing only 15 barrels per day with a 98% water cut and had been converted into an observation well after several unsuccessful sidetracks. This turnaround stands as a testament to Arkenu’s operational excellence and positions the company for greater production capabilities moving forward.
